Actually, we don't. The taxes and tolls we currently pay don't come close to covering the cost that 2 million privately owned autos and who-knows-how-many trucks impose on the City each year.

The only rational thing to do at this point is to make driving in the City more expensive and use the revenue to improve conditions for public transit, cycling, and walking.
